Hurley is our very first Berner, who has a very special place in and, literally, over my heart. As a baby he was the most laid back dog I have ever met even to this very day. I and a friend went for a 5 hour drive to Lisa's home to pick him up. Most of the litter were still there but he was not one of the pups who leapt up on the pen barriers. Instead he stood slightly behind them and quietly wagged his tail. My eyes were easily drawn to him and he stared back at me with a small grin and a full body wag. I'm sure those of us who have fallen in love with the breed will remember the first time we met our first Bernese. It's certainly a memory that will not easily leave my brain. He grew up to be an amazingly lovable dog who has charmed everyone who met him. His temperament is still one of the best I have seen so far. Berners are naturally tentative of strangers but Hurley also turned out to be an superb judge of character.

In the conformation world Hurley gained his NZ Champion title in February 2007 at the age of 16 months. My favourite part of this special boy is his head. It has a very pleasing structure topped with some amazing expressions, some of which may appear vacuous depending on the time of day but many of us are guilty of that fault! :o)
